So the AI boom has made the bots depressed too huh …
I know, and no one will believe me
But if everyone is using it to mean something new then we need to record that.
Those topics seems a little advanced for a Linux user without cyber security knowledge though. I personally don’t understand any of them lol. I know what hardening is, what CVEs are; but except for few anecdotes like the logj4, xz, etc, I don’t think I’d know enough to talk about the cyber security side of linux.
I was thinking more along the side of daily life things. Like how programmer like linux because it’s easier to develop things and manage environments and cross program compatibility.
What would be interesting topics in Linux for you guys. I am in a Linux student club, have no experience with cyber security except the generic things, and we are looking to attract cyber security students since Linux doesn’t have many students to maintain club status.
I’ll repeat it as much as I can but we need yo open up new journals for these kind of things.
All we need is a good cloud for storage, and volunteers. I think comp-sci people do that with https://arxiv.org/
The journal should accept any user submitted papers but have ranking based on other people, like successful reproducible studies (which is also accepted in journal) will be linked to the original journal. Reviews and such can be their own articles but also linked to the journal.
That way, undergrads can do projects reproducing previous studies (given resources) which will still give them research credit. Failures and exploration will also give people credit as it helps other people’s research. We can just tag papers for novel ideas, failures, reproducing old paper, reviews, etc.
I think it has a chance to be very useful if we can pull it off. Although it’ll have the same problems as of social media with upvote system. So some more thoughts needs to be there for the actual implementation.
That seems like a wonderful function. Considering android support external mouse with cursors. I hope someone can make a FOSS version and put it in F-droid.
Please give me a couple millions.
Without open sourcing it, it would probably been hard to market it and keep improving it though. Like if Linux was not open source project it probably would have had the same fate so many other OS before it had.
That’s what bibliography is. It’s already like that, or am I missing something?
We’re not saying pay the authors a bunch, we’re saying make the papers free to read. Or at least don’t charge authors and readers both, while keeping all the money for yourself.
Yup, looks like that movie. Thanks, I didn’t remember the name.
I remember there being something like this already. The final mission happens as they say “this is the final training for you”. The enemy (aliens) behave differently than expected in this final simulation because they are not immediately aggressive and are waiting while defending their location, but the child successfully eliminates them. And later learns that was the actual aliens and not the simulation. And the aliens were just trying to find a place and protect their new generation, or sth.
Considering they made it so that you need apple issued usb-c, and have problems with normal one (probably fixed now because people obviously complained). I’d say avoiding it is a good choice.
Losing access to a work I put hours and days, sometimes months of my life was the main reason I now absolutely refuse any non-open source products. My advisor/colleagues sometimes say “university gives it for free”, or “we pay all that money for this softwares”, but I am not going to use them even if they are slightly better than open source.
This. Think of Bill gates, and think of Linus Torvalds. Inspiration to make money can only do so much. There’d be a lot more people making awesome stuffs today if large corps didn’t just buy any small tech company making anything that could be used. Sometimes they buy them and use it, sometimes they buy is and then ensittify it so people will have no choice but to use things they want.
Do I know something to play it. When I tried, it was way complex or something. Couldn’t understand what’s going on or what I’m supposed to do.
You know how people say “Devil you know is better than God you don’t”?
Excel is that Devil people know. It’s not the best tool for a lot of stuffs but it let’s people do things.
I saw a co-worker generate sequence for formula in excel for another cell in excel. They wanted to do average of all January data, instead of averageif/sumif/countif etc, they generated a sequence a1+a13+a25… And used excels’ drag down thing to make the formula. I’m like who could even verify it.
If there was an easy way to use rust or something on webassemly and use that instead of JS. I’d be so happy, but I can’t find how to do it without npm.
Yeah, I knew it wasn’t a bot reply, but since I thought you marked it as such it was a fun comment.
