When I upgraded it wasn’t so much about the minimal updates in this year’s phone. It was the sum of 5+ years of updates that was compelling.
Dynamic Island, a big camera spec jump, much faster Face ID, smoother scrolling, USB C, better Siri, MagSafe, etc.
If you want to give the big phone a try, you have 14 days to decide if you like it or not.
I guess it would be sus if Huawei was using some charging frequencies that China was cool with, and this just so happened to only impact a lot of manufacturers that were outside of China.
But I don’t know if Huawei is or isn’t impacted. Finding frequencies in recent tech specs is kind of hard.
So what frequency do Huawei chargers use?

Phelps was actually so good that he needed to slow his performance down with bongloads and Subway sandos so people wouldn’t assume he was doping.
There is no separate install for Apple’s on-device models. You download the OS, go into settings, and opt into the Apple Intelligence waitlist. When you’re approved, it just works.
That said, Chat GPT and the Image Playground are not part of 18.1.
So far it still feels pretty beta-y. AKA, not great.
But that might also change over the coming days. I don’t know if the local model is doing any background indexing.
I’m running it now. If y’all have any questions about the build, what’s in / what’s out, etc, just ask!
Right now it’s all opt-in.
That said, when it is enabled, you can disable it via: Settings > Apple intelligence > off.
Public beta and dev beta are often an identical build. Devs just get it first because they’re know how to dig out of a hole if the build is horribly wrong.
I can’t say I’m surprised. They said it we’d get betas by summer. That puts them on the 18.1 track.
Per the article you posted. It appears to be an optional way to customize a playlist. You have to decide to do it. If you don’t want an AI playlist cover, don’t tap the button.
Strings suggest that there will be a “Create Image” button when editing a playlist. This button will invoke Image Playground, which is part of the Apple Intelligence features.
You have to tap “Create Image” to open Image Playground. It’s doesn’t automatically generate random images for all your playlists.
Yes, but you also have the hardware. Hence my reference of TSMC, Qualcomm, etc.
Honestly, if you’re going to start boycotting the major technology companies because of Israel, your next phone is going to be this.
Apple, Google, Microsoft, LG, TSMC, Intel, Qualcomm, etc. They’re all pretty invested in the nation. And for the few companies like Samsung that pulled out, they’re still selling products that are made from Google, TSMC, and Qualcomm stuff. So you’re really only one step removed from companies that are invested in Israel.
Curious to see how or if this continues to exist after the very version of MacOS drops, and they have API key integration directly in the OS.
It wasn’t my intention to come across as aggressive. Not trying to pick a fight here.
I’m honestly just curious about how some gen AI features are showing for you. If you are able to access them, I would love to reproduce what you did so that I could fiddle with the AI as well. I’m seeing the same bedtime stories on my iOS 17 / 18 devices and my Ventura Mac.
When ask iOS 18 Siri to tell me a story, I get the same handful of stories over and over. Mouse college friends, a spider with the spindly legs, ground squirrels, etc. 🤷♂️
Yeah, they put product compatibility for everything on the site. But we also enjoy shit posting about this over priced microfiber cloth every year.
