  • Met a girl while being an English teacher in China. She was originally from New York. She had a very distinctive voice, very hard to forget.

Fast forward 10 years. I’m at the Santa Monica Pier playing Pokemon Go with my brother. Suddenly, THAT VOICE. I’m like… No… That isn’t possible. I keep on walking.

We reach the end of the pier, and turn around. And BOOM. There she is. We make eye contact, and are both like wtffff.

Turns out she moved there to do a podcast or something.

    Anyway cool shit

Honestly Lemmy sucks because people here are all try-hard assholes who are incapable of seeing nuance. Anytime I comment on anything I somehow end up offending some segment of the Marxist left. Which baffles me because I’m rather far left as well, but they are too caught up in trying to prove I am an idiot to realize I’m literally on their side on 99% of topics.

It’s pretty discouraging and I’ve kinda stopped wanting to interact here.

I actually agree with you in many aspects. Something new that is being taught in therapy training is that we have to be aware of systemic issues that are contributing to someone’s mental health.

Example: someone is suicidal and feeling hopeless. Do they have clinical major depressive disorder? Maybe, but if we ask “how are your finances doing?” And they say they work full time at Walmart and get paid $10 per hour and have 3 kids… Yeah it makes sense why they feel helpless and suicidal.

For this reason, therapists and mental health workers have a duty to advocate for progressive social policies.
