I grew up in the country with an in-ground swimming pool that we heated with a solar cover. When the cover was retracted/rolled up Bullsnakes would hide inside. There were quite a few times when they’d hastily slither out unexpectedly, and I’ve been pretty freaked out by snakes ever since.

  • I disagree with both of the writer’s main points. Even having imperial blood, Chani wouldn’t be spared any of the hard work and strife all Fremen endure as a part of their culture and sociopolitical conflicts on Arrakis. She would still have to be a tough fighter to have earned the respect of the tribe. And being the daughter of Kynes, Chani would have an even higher social standing, thus making her more influential when advocating for Paul.

With that being said, I actually did like that Villenueve’s Dune Pt 2 added Chani’s character’s negative reaction to Paul taking Irulan as his wife at the end. It makes her more of an independent free spirit, better embodying Fremen individualism, and making her an empowered, strong woman; a quality that the Chani in Herbert’s original works definitely lacked.
