  • Modern astrophysics exists because a house fell on a teenage orphan.

Who as a result got adopted by a prince.

He got access to a royal lab for glassmaking.

Then he tried fixing color aberration in his microscope lenses.

Then he noticed the rainbow had holes in it. Huh.

Then he died. Glassmaking and tuberculosis are fast friends.

Then Bunsen invented his burner, which made spectra that matched the rainbow holes. Huh.

Now we know what stars and planetary atmospheres are made of!

  • Was gifted a lightly used Keurig machine. Partner started noticing little roaches everywhere in the kitchen. She was halfway through a cup of coffee when she opened the water reservoir and spotted a few floating in the water. I opened the machine and the machine was full of them.

Roaches can lay up to 32 eggs/week, and I think a roach mom had at least one good week in the Keurig.

Friend had said he didn’t want it because it was attracting roaches. He claims to not have known it was carrying them.

the continued existence of recoverable information

This phrase helped something click. Thanks for collapsing a wave function for me with all that information 😜

Seriously though, this is how information works even in evolution: continued existence of recoverable information. Genes that don’t favor recovery of the genetic line, drop out of information’s purview.

To see some basic analogy of natural selection at the quantum level is a bit exciting, to say the least.
