  • They typically sink and they don’t have that particular scent component. Apparently, I’ve been living with bad info on buoyancy apparently because a couple decades Oprah said it’s supposed to float. As for fat intake, I cycle on and off with keto (high fat, low carb) but can’t say these farts occur during keto. I would also note it’s some scent very specific to Wendy’s nugs that I don’t smell anywhere else. Maybe it’s just a particular spice? It’s not present in the fries so I don’t think it’s specifically the oil. I appreciate your educated guess. I was hoping literally anyone else would have this experience. My wife concurs about the similarity of smells but the production is solely my talent.

  • +1 on determining (and understanding) sleep cycles. And +1 on naps. I consider myself really good at napping. Somewhere I read NASA determined 26 minutes being the best nap amount, so I have a 28 minute timer because I can usually fall asleep within 5 minutes.

Routines before sleeping can help your brain fall asleep faster. I beleive that’s a key to my nap ability because it usually works even if I don’t think I’m sleepy. I have 1 hour for lunch at work, so if I bring food, I can nap in my car. I used to park facing uphill and east at one job to get extra recline and keep the afternoon sun off me, but my current lot is flat and I got a sleep mask. I play a specific artist (Deadmau5) on a low volume. I have used construction ear muffs as extra sound dampening.

I learned of a mental game that does an amazing job of getting my thoughts to calm down. Pick a category, then run through the alphabet to name something for each letter. Apple, banana, cranberry, etc. If you can’t think of something, skip the letter and come back. I basically never make it to the end unless I’m really upset about something. And, not gonna lie, the most effective category for me is sex/porn categories. Nothing is more focused than a horny brain.

  • The recent trend of Halloween decoration is swinging towards Christmas decorations. Just flood your yard with a Halloween theme made of every item you can afford rather than trying to set an unsettling mood (for the people with more than a few decorations). Maybe I’m too stuck up, maybe I overrate the spookiness of my display. But there’s a ton of absurdly overpriced props with the world’s worst speakers for sale in Spirit. I really noticed it when the home depot “#12ftskeleton” prop went so viral they put the hashtag on the box (still not convinced it wasn’t viral marketing).

  • And the cheating will be tolerated promoted because they seriously beleive the other side is cheating. “Trump got more votes in 2020 than any prior candidate” is proof enough. Certainly can’t be that he’s such a polarizing, vile piece of shit that actually scared more non-voting people to vote tod defeat him, and they certainly can’t beleive Biden actually holds the vote record (note the key use of “prior” in trump’s claim). They really think the orange coastal elite is somehow on the working man’s side. The same cheeto that has declined to pay every contractor on his towers. The same cheese puff that couldn’t sell steaks. The same crayon that couldn’t find profit in a casino.

  • This is close to my belief. Someone has to own the home and they’re worth hundreds of thousands of dollars (I’m not getting into the overblown values right now, one step at a time). Since most people don’t have $300k+ in cash (US non-metro), then they’re not buying it outright. What’s the difference between paying rent to a landlord or mortgage to a bank? Both are making a profit and both can kick you out for non-payment (again, one problem at a time). So, given the current state of housing, you can legitimately provide housing at a reasonable price that doesn’t require a 50k+ down payment first. I am not a landlord sympathizer, I am not a landlord. I’m just someone still putting 60% of my monthly mortgage payment into the interest accrued just in the last 30 days (read: new homeowner).

Don’t be a dick corpo fuck that buys blocks of houses and let’s them sit vacant to drive up scarcity. Don’t be a flipper that does a cheap reno to turn $30k of improvements into a $150k upsell. Don’t do the cheapest repairs to meet code for your tenants.

  • Because something that gets lost in the two party system is that, at its core, there’s the conservative side trying to make things best for their majority group and then there’s a dozen different types of liberals trying to make the world better in their direction. One side wants to revert back, one “side” is pulling in a hundred different directions. Should we tackle education first? Financial responsibility? Human rights? Social safety nets? Pollution? Climate change? National interest? Global interest? There’s so many different topics that liberals want to progress forward in an order each individual determines. It’s not a single liberal force, it’s a hundred forces in a trench coat. Conservatives (of any country or topic) are some kind of incumbent majority/dominating demographic while the alternatives all fall under “liberal”. So the only thing that consistently unifies the democrats is what they don’t like

  • A low-carb food isn’t useful on its own because, as you pointed out, the fat/calorie count is usually huge. However, if you can stick to a full ketogenic diet, low-carb actually works for weight loss - ketosis isn’t dependent on a caloric deficit. Yes, most casual-but-dedicated dieters are still going to mess up other things with bad fats and excessive salts like making jerky roll ups in mozzarella dough while forgetting to stuff themselves with vegetables. Your body will take a few days to figure out how it’s supposed to get energy if you’re not supplementing with dietary sugars, but it does eventually. So while yes I roll my eyes at too many requests for low-carb items, I have to appreciate their misunderstanding resulting in my improved food options.

Because that’s how I dropped 40lbs in 6 months without changing anything else in my life and while still having tasty food without guilt. 235>195 5’10 M

  • That’s probably the same demographic that praises craft beer from brewery businesses, so I think the question should be taken back a step from DIYer to consumer. Here’s my interpretation from the US, matching the demo in question.

I’d guess from an economic status, lower income doesn’t have the money to spend on craft beer and higher income would transition towards wines. Even though wine and beer can both be made in less than 2 months, beer typically doesn’t benefit from aging but wine typically does - meaning better wines incur higher overhead costs for storage for better wines.

From an ethnic standpoint, I don’t think I can pin it on anything other than being the majority demographic of the English-speaking world (with your survey/groups possibly being US/Canada focused). Beer is certainly a global phenomenon, but keep in mind your sources will be based by language. However, Germany is the only country I can think of outside of North America where I’d expect diverse craft beer. Maybe their surrounding countries and England too. Everyone makes alcohol, but they may put more resources into wines and spirits instead. Ethnicity likely also ties into financial status on a global scale so once you account for language bias, you’ll lose countries that don’t have the national spending available for such craft beers.

As for gender, I would put that down as a mix of beer being seen as manly - large quantity of liquid, not sweet, makes burps. Sweet and brightly-colored drinks make many men worried other men might think they’re gay (gods forbid you enjoy a tasty drink). So that gives straight men drinking beer and everyone else mixing it up.

Where does that leave us? Straight white middle class men drink craft beer, which spills over into the homebrew English-speaking community demographic.

  • Wow, tough crowd. At no point did you say you were looking at typical diamonds but you’re still getting jumped. My interpretation is that you’re not interested in mined diamonds and are already aware of the massive ethical issues.

I can’t tell you if she actually wants an expensive ring with a big rock, despite what that other comment assures you. That’s something you have to determine. My SO wanted something pretty and durable, not expensive. She meant it. She also picked a stone in her favorite color. I think it’s flanked by small diamonds for that sparkle but it was only $350 at a department store. I guess at this point I should mention why she did all the shopping and why I don’t really know: I proposed with a paper ring and quoted Taylor Swift in doing so. Rather than take a guess and potentially be way off from what she’s been looking at on her own, she was able to choose it herself. Some people may be upset that you didn’t do all the traditional work, but that’s between you and your SO and for you to determine acceptability. A woman with established desires (beyond price) in a ring has likely already done a ton of shopping.

If she tends to be rough with her hands, diamonds are still the most durable stone available. It will take most stones a long time to be visibly scratched, but it happens - especially around sand. That also means if she loses jewelry, the ring may not be around long enough to matter.

I wouldn’t recommend silver since it’s softer and tarnished a little faster than the other options.

As far as cut, you’re really getting into an opinionated area. Some people like the traditional cartoon cut, some like an older oval, some a rectangle, etc. It depends on her style and how loud she wants her jewelry to be.

It’s a very variable topic. The only thing I can say, and this applies to many things, is that when you get down to the final 5ish options, no one else will know what you chose between. You’ll forget too. They’ll probably all be nearly identical if you were to describe them on paper without a picture. There’s no such thing as perfect but you always come to simply accept something for being what it is. I went through this with dozens of paint chips when remodeling a house. Once the walls are painted, your guests will never know nor care how long you spent choosing between G305-03 and G306-03.
