To be fair, there’s a point to be made that someone who’s overly trigger-happy on dislike should be shamed for it. Just like you would be if you kept being snide to everyone in real life.
I agree that transparency would do much more good than harm, plus compared to the info that people already put in their profiles/comments, it’s not likely to make them anymore identifiable.
Votes should absolutely be public. They were on KBin, and it made people more civil for it because you could be shamed if you were dislike trolling or liking all of your own posts/comments to make them look better (which is something you actively have to do on here, unlike Reddit).
Given this place is pseudo-anonymous anyways, and people comment far more personal and identifiable info here anyways (which tbf you should be careful about), I think public votes would do much more good than harm.
Too many people end up in debt spirals with these BNPL companies because there’s no consistent safeguards against it, so we absolutely should be regulating them better. We shouldn’t be leaving financially vulnerable people to the wolves.
Given that complex life as we know it is only about 500-600 million years old, around the time of the Cambrian Explosion, the only image that comes to mind is two Eukaryotic cells getting frisky, having a one replication stand, then parting ways
To be fair to the developers, they do elaborate a little further in the comments:
Hey everyone, We appreciate the sudden enthusiasm for our game. When we launched it in 2015 into early access and 2016 into full, we were at the vanguard of asymmetrical games. It was exciting, but it was also our first step down the Dunning Kruger curve. QL has bugs that we cannot fix, shaky net code and overall sloppy design. We left the game up for this long so that players who had friends that wanted to play, could still get a copy. However it has been 9 years with minimal to no activity. So we felt it was right to remove it now.
I don’t know enough about this game or it’s community to comment much, but the devs don’t seem to be bad guys - seems like a story of naive developers making a mistake, but doing their best for their community with what they had. For a niche online game with no DLCs, 9 years is hardly a bad run.
It’s a tale as old as time for the right-wing… in the words of Bono, “Well, tonight thank God it’s them instead of you”.

In terms of pure image quality, real objects would win every time because they only have to be filtered by our eyes - digital images are filtered through the GPU and screen before ever reaching our eyes.
As such, the real contest is the ability of displays to make digital images look comparable to those real objects - because that’s harder to do vs. ust looking at the real life object, it’s more impressive to us.

Ergo if rendering 1 second of our time took 10 years of their time, we wouldn’t measure 10 years, we’d measure 1 second, so we’d have no way of knowing.
It’s worth remembering that simulation theory is, at least for now, unfalsifiable. By it’s nature there’s always a counterargument to any evidence againat it, therefore it always remains a non-zero possibility, just like how most religions operate.

As someone with ASD, I can’t say I’ve seen that much difference in the time it takes NT/ND people to get over a fight.
While I have seen some consistency across the sexes, in that guys seem to hold onto arguments for less time on average, even that varies quite a lot.
I too am absolutely pumped to live in a world where human artistry is all but confined to the wealthy, and we all get AI generated pseudo-art instead! Woot woot!
Again, if you started writing 0.999… on a piece of paper, it would never suddenly become 1, it would always be 0.999… - you know that to be true without even trying it.
The difference is virtually nonexistent, and that is what makes them mathematically equal, but there is a difference, otherwise there wouldn’t be an infinitely long string of 9s between the two.
Any real world implementation of maths (such as the length of an object) would definitely be constricted to real world parameters, and the lowest length you can go to is the Planck length.
But that point wasn’t just to talk about a plank of wood, it was to show how little difference the infinite 9s in 0.999… make.
It is mathematically equal to one, but it isn’t physically one. If you wrote out 0.999… out to infinity, it’d never just suddenly round up to 1.
But the point I was trying to make is that I agree with the interpretation of the meme in that the above distinction literally doesn’t matter - you could use either in a calculation and the answer wouldn’t (or at least shouldn’t) change.
That’s pretty much the point I was trying to make in proving how little the difference makes in reality - that the universe wouldn’t let you explore the infinity between the two, so at some point you would have to round to 1m, or go to a number 1x planck length below 1m.
Yeah. If you’re on a public forum accessible to anyone, which the whole fediverse is, then you should never assume privacy.
Honestly transparency in this regard would be better - they’re already visible to much of the community, so they might as well be visible to everyone.
