Billionaire wants a totalitarian state, who’s surprised?
I use Proton and really like it, but I don’t know how to go about using my own domain (though I am interested in it). How difficult is it for someone without webdev and self hosting experience to get set up?
It’s not so much that I can’t make phone calls, as much as I don’t want to. 75% of the time you just end up playing phone tag, and I’d rather just email so they can reply at their convenience and there’s no question about who said what
How so? I already use both, I’m just curious
In grad school, I was talking to an Econ professor and mentioned that I had been reading a paper from another economist. He said that he’d edited a book chapter the other guy had written and found it so incomprehensibly wrong that he didn’t know where to start lol
As someone who is solidly left and visibly queer, but doesn’t particularly like living in big cities, that’s the question- how do you live near trees, but not Republicans?
Same in Michigan. Voters here passed a ballot initiative with a bunch of voting rights protections in 2022, and now you can sign up to be mailed a ballot once, and they keep sending it for every election if that, if you check the box saying you want that. It makes it SO easy to vote, especially for smaller elections that I ordinarily probably wouldn’t pay attention to
That’s interesting, I never knew that! Makes sense though
How is putting up so many barriers to participation meant to protect the sport?
I do, but not as frequently as I used to. I think it is helpful though, and I wish I’d do it more often.
I haven’t learned much about him, but my impression is he’s made some pretty heinous statements about his personal views, but he’s done some useful things for FOSS. I don’t have a strong desire to learn more, tbh
It continues to be buggy shit. I tried switching from Google Maps to OSMAnd on iOS and didn’t last a week
My family uses iPhones, and my wife and I got a deal on two when we signed onto Verizon after we got married and our parents booted us from the family plans. I’ll probably switch back to Android, to a Fairphone, when my iPhone goes kaput
You’re right about the differing educational requirements, but optometrists are just as much an eye doctor as an ophthalmologist. They just fulfill different roles.
Optometrists do four years of optometry school (the fourth of which is entirely supervised practice) and pass a series of licensing exams. Many optometrists also complete residencies to further specialize. They typically see patients on a regular basis to monitor eye health, provide contacts and glasses, and treat some diseases.
Ophthalmologists go to medical school, and then further specialize in eyes. They tend to treat more serious diseases and injuries, especially when they require surgery (or injections, depending on the state).
I guess I would compare the difference as similar to a dentist versus an oral surgeon. Both doctors, both valuable and knowledgeable components of the healthcare system, just filling different roles.
I’ve been contemplating making the switch from Pop to LMDE. Have you encountered many issues daily driving LMDE?
I was stunned when I saw it wasn’t that guy. Jokes on me, because yeah, very clearly the same dude with a new account. He seriously needs to log off, go to the gym, and see a therapist
It’s not. Those things have worked for me and many others. You’re not that special. If you want to keep wallowing in hating and pitying yourself, that’s your choice. But remember that it’s not life and the world conspiring against you, it’s your own shitty behavior that drives people away.
It’s not great
That is not accurate, and doomerism only helps those who want us too demoralized to put up a fight. If you want to be part of the solution to climate change, I recommend doing some reading on what the range of projections and outcomes actually look like.
