No actor/actress should have their pool of potential roles made vanishingly small because of a thing they can’t change, the colour of their skin! And then on top of there being very few roles for people of colour in western pop culture based on your criteria, the very few roles they COULD take are often ALSO given to white actors/actresses in bizarre acts of whitewashing idiocy! It’s infuriating! Talent, passion, skill, training, these should be the kinds of factors involved when choosing who gets cast for what role, not where you fall on the colour wheel! It’s just crazy to me that it’s even a consideration at all and in future people will look back and be incredulous that it ever was!? At least I hope that will be the case, as we are making slow progress in that direction.

I loved every minute of it! Thought it was incredibly well cast! Lucy & her brother, The Goul, Ma June and Wilzig were among my favourites! I loved the world, the T60 armour, the wildlife, Filly, Snip-Snip, the pre-war period and how they managed to get at least three main characters through their own interlocking story arcs and come to a satisfactory conclusion so that if there was never a season 2 it still felt pretty complete. Looking forward to seeing more in this world!

Nah, I’d be like, go on! Do you associate that song with a particular event, person, time or place in your life? When did you first hear it? In what context is it your fave? Have you ever heard it played live? What was that like? Could you ever imagine another song taking its place or is it too sentimental or ingrained into your very being?

Basically a question like “fave colour/song” is often a simple test. The kind of answer you give should indicate whether or not the topic can be opened up or expanded upon or even just indicate if you want to talk to this person at all right now. If you answer “blue I guess”, and look completely disinterested or “insert massive pop hit of the moment” and leave it at that, then they know to go about their day or try another topic like “So what about that sportsball game/weather/current event?”. But you might give them a nuanced answer that will lead to more conversation.

It is handy to have a simple, 1 dimensional responce if you want to shut down the conversation quickly or direct it to another topic.

I think that’s one of two separate ways to solve some of the problems. Yes, there’s long lasting, industrial style, built like a tank and made to last that costs a lot as one solution. But there could also be cheaper products that wouldn’t last as long except that when something does go wrong you could buy a fairly cheap replacement part and swap it out using readily available tools. Both solutions can and should exist and would serve different markets.

You don’t have to actually be able to do it yourself for it to be beneficial. If I am, lets just say for the sake of argument, completely hopeless and don’t know my quick web search pentalobes from my tri-points I should still be able to take a thing to a repair shop and they should be able to use standard tools to open it and use standard or at least affordable parts to repair it. We’re not talking about “changing oil is hard” because you can take your car to a workshop and they’ll do it for you. We’re talking about you can’t change the oil, you have to throw the car away and buy a new one.

Yes, I love what they do but I think it’d have to be independant / not tied to commercial interests to be adopted widely.

Could there be a star rating on products like with the energy star rating? Start with 5 stars and for every egregious anti user repair sin take a star off? Would probably go into negative stars? Not user openable with standard tools, dock a star. Glued not screwed together, dock a star. Uses proprietory parts when standard alternatives are readily available, another star gone. Non user replacable battery, you’re now knocking on the door of a big fat ZERO stars!

Yeah, same and for the same reason, to be more engaged than I have been elsewhere. I mostly switch between All / New or Subscribed / New. I can see that changing if things get much busier.

I was thinking of the supermarket duopoly we have here in New Zealand were the two major players own 85% of the total market. So it might not be comparible to this type of store? Margins here are around 20% so that’s coloured my read of this story. The obcene profits here are at the retailer and they pressure the wholesellers to reduce prices to where they can even exceed a 20% margin. We’re definitly in a “It would be a shame if your product couldn’t be found on our shelves” situation. They own everything from small country town stores to large city supermarkets.

I’ll have no choice but to close a store.

Yeah, because hiring staff back and getting rid of self help checkouts is impossible?? How would they even go about that?

Or, and here’s a radical idea, drop your prices so people can actually afford to pay for the food??
