  • Dude, I 100% get what your saying.

Unfortunately what your asking of people requires personal sacrifice, and people will mentally go all over the place to resist that.

A personal anecdotes is that I’m no longer in contact with my family because I refused to see my racist grandfather on his deathbed and didn’t attend his funeral.

My grandfather was an abusive, literal stereotype of a racist(would say things like “them n-words down the road are fucking up this town”) and a raging alcoholic. The world is better because he’s fucking dead. Now I don’t have a family of origin because I wouldn’t pretend he was a good person.

Men will lose friends and family if they start calling this shit out. It’s hard. You get told to “mind your business” or "it’s just a joke " or get your masculinity questioned. Or the whole “but they’re family” thing. I get why people resist it. No one wants to lose their social support, but often that’s what it comes down to, and they’ll make it feel like you’re the one who’s in the wrong the whole time.

Social pressure is a hell of a thing. I think framing the context around why men don’t call this stuff out will help them recognize why they should.

Also it’s good to let people know because dogs absolutely love that shit and you have to be careful to keep it out of areas dogs can get at it.

I worked in a green house and one customer’s dog dug up an entire tree she planted to get at the blood meal she put in the bottom of the hole. Dog was okay, but needed to stay at the vets a few days to monitor the vomiting and their iron levels.

  • That’s why I added if you have the means, I absolutely understand if you don’t. I just had a tooth extracted that was overdue by a few years. Just didn’t have the money to get it filled before it cracked in half and I was in excruciating pain for months. I get it.

Maybe try a community health center if you have one near you? They usually do a sliding scale and can make referrals to doctors who work with uninsured or under-insured people. That’s how I got my tooth taken care of without being thousands in debt after. Just google “community health centers near 'name of town & state.” That is if you feel like pursuing it. Totally get it if you don’t, but the above info can help with other health related issues too.

Either way, I hope even a little of that info is helpful to you. I fucking hate healthcare that’s useless AND expensive. Wishing you the best.

  • Ugh. Sometimes I think drs just say “it’s all in your head” as an easy way to handwave people out the door. They get paid regardless if they solve your problem or not. I’m sorry that happened to you. If you aren’t sleeping well that’s an issue. Any sleep specialist worth their salt knows this.

It took me about 10 years to get my diagnosis so I feel this. If you have the means maybe seek out a different sleep specialist and do a second test under that one. It’s frustrating that to need to do that, but unfortunately that’s what it comes to when you run into asshole doctors who don’t care, don’t bother listen, or just assume your a moron and your suffering is your own doing.

Best luck to you! I hope you get it figured out and find some relief soon

  • This is why I’ll probably never travel unless I can take a boat or something. Crying babies aggravate my misophonia to such a severe degree that I will do everything in my power to not be trapped in a small space with even one(no i dont have children.)

So airplanes are a no go. Basically anywhere else I can remove myself. But in a plane you’re stuck. I know babies can’t help crying, and I can’t help my reaction, but I can also choose to not get on a plane. Babies go where their adult takes them.

If I can logically parse out that airplanes aren’t a mode of transit I can tolerate maybe others should do the same. Then maybe kids won’t get locked in freaking bathrooms over this shit.

  • JK Rowling is two K’s short of a klan.

I’d love to see these laws work against her and her followers. Terfs are just as misogynistic as Tater Tot, it just looks different.

“Oh no, we might be mistaken for trans, ban all trans women.” - Terfs.

It’s no different than homophonic men being afraid of being mistaken as gay. It’s immature and pathetic.

I guess it’s a matter of who is interpreting and applying the law though. Which sucks.

People are taught how to write in an academic style in school.

There’s different applications for writing. Some examples in include but are not limited to academic, creative, and conversational/casual writing. Education tends to focus on academic(correct grammar, writing essays, doing research papers) followed by creative writing which is storytelling and poetry.

Expecting people to write academically in casual settings is weird. If I write a letter or email to my friend it’s going to include slang and have looser grammar.

Casual and academic writing have their place and time. Suggesting casual writing is inferior is just silly. If people always wrote everything like some formal essay it’d be fucking boring. No humor, no colorful language. Just boring ass academic writing everywhere.

Plus, believe it or not some of my most brilliant professors had a very casual way of speaking and writing. Academic use of language does not indicate intelligence. It just means they know how to write in an academic setting. Nothing more, nothing less.

  • I wrote this on another post about this topic, but i think it’s worth repeating.

The women of India formed the Gulabi Gang because this problem has gotten that bad.

If you read interviews with their founder it’s really upsetting just how common rape and domestic violence are in India and how little law enforcement cares.

I think it’s more helpful to listen to women who live in India who have experienced this sort of violence. I think it’s better to be informed on their reality rather than speculating on the situation as foreigners.

  • A lot of private insurance in the US amounts to paying a couple hundred monthly to have the insurance and then they deny payment for basically anything and everything. So you pay them to pay out of pocket anyway.

Just got state insurance which covers everything, but very few offices accept it.

So yeah. Insurance in the US is super fucked up and people go without healthcare, even if they have insurance because they simply can’t afford it.
