  • That sounds pretty atrocious to me. No conditions means “even if they plan to slaughter every last Palestinian child.”

The Senator knows that isn’t happening currently nor is it going to be occurring and is speaking in that context. Quite frankly I’ve heard way worse actually professed by Pro-Palestinians supporters up to the point they consider even Israeli babies legitimate targets. Even when Pro-Palestinians are challenged to at least denounce Hamas they ridicule the effort which seems worse than the Senator’s statement. You might just have to accept that the Senator is being aspirational about the statement given the current realities not the ones you want to exaggerate.

This, meanwhile, is an atrocious lie. Because Israel and the IDF have been found guilty of all of those things. It is an atrocious lie, not just a lie, because it ignores all of the horrific things Israel has done since he wants to be the “last man standing on the Israeli side”

Ceasefires relate to the conflict in which they are negotiated. So far the Senator is correct that Israel has yet to violate one in this iteration of the Israel/Gaza-Hamas War.

This is atrocious because it puts the responsibility of taking the lives of thousands of Palestinians out of the IDF’s hands and entirely in Hamas’ hands, suggesting that Israel is innocent of killing Palestinians.

There needs to be at least some(not all or large amounts of) allowances for refugees to neighboring regions. Sad fact is every country is fencing in civilians here because of irrational fears of land theft & political axe grinding. Israel returned all the land of Gaza already through disengagement. These are vulnerable people and I do agree it is an atrocity. There is an entire UN refugee program & numerous NGOs dedicated to Palestinians and the world has allowed a lot of extremism to flourish over the decades. Disappointing that no one wants to discuss the negligence from these organizations.

Quite frankly the UN has been embarrassing with the increase of Global conflicts. Food Aid is decreasing while hostile powers are strangling grain supplies yet it can barely respond. Recently Sudan & Congo is in conflict with lots of children suffering yet no one cares.

  • Yes, I am aware of the awful policy of Travel days of Monday & Friday and dislike it. I could see some Mondays but Friday is annoying. Former speaker Pelosi brought it back and something I’ve disliked for quite some time. I’m sympathetic to Western states but allowing some limited tolerance of proxy votes easily addresses that.

His actions have been pretty great but hey if you want to bury your head fine, enjoy yourself.

Your participation in elections are great but if you are such a super voter then get more involved in your local party & encourage others. Nothing President Biden has done has ever been in violation of our national party platform & I probably same for many state democratic parties. I’m cool with some aspects of third parties if the Democrat Party structure and/or platform is unpalatable to you.

Nobody is worried about your opposition its just juvenile if its just a no vote on the president. Also, the critique about “systems” seems very horseshoe-y .

Vote how you want lemmy cuz and glad you do so. Have a great one and we can continue this on other subjects.

  • Not chocking Biden up as the best pro-Union president but are you dense here, he has actually done quite a lot to reverse the trend & a big supporter. You’d have to ignore the last 50 years to think he is bad for unions.

All I can glean from this is you have a strong distaste for democracy? Its the best system we have and not sure you even have a grasp on how it works or can even promote a viable alternative. The bigger risk is folks that want to burn the system down & can’t even articulate what they want let alone discuss how it would be better.

  • First off I’m not that worried about the threat. The attention span of these “concerned” voters is going to wane quickly. They didn’t care in 2021 they will probably fizzle out in 2024 especially if the tempo of war changes, already the civilian causality rate in Gaza has gone down considerably & even the Biden administration is demanding Israel to state goals/conditions for our support to continue(evidence of our bargaining power with UN votes). President Biden is toughening our stance to bring Two-state solution back to the table which isn’t in focus sadly in Israel. This is why he is a billion times better than the opposition or any other alternative.

To quote a movie, if we burn you burn with us.

Right there in your response shows the naivety of how to handle a LONG term issue with short-term action. No matter if Hamas is destroyed or another round of ceasefires occurs the Palestinians will have to rebuild and need aid. They really need & deserve more than that honestly. Lets survey the current landscape, UN is pulling peacekeepers out of Africa & decreasing funds to food aid globally. Are anti-UN candidates such as Cornell West, Any GOP candidate, Robert Kennedy Jr., or others really going to be able to reverse that? Will known “America First” republicans & progressives that favor “Spend Money here first/only” politicians going to be good for Palestinians?

Sure, they can wish to burn it down in hopes it makes them feel better for some weird reason. Just not sure it achieves anything than making it worse for Palestinians. If they believe they have the ability to tank a presidential campaign, why not also (or only)focus Congressional or Senate primaries? Congress is the ones that authorizes weapon sales & could give more assistance to Palestinians. Congressional District represents 700K and Senate races are handled on a state level which should be easier than a National campaign. God knows a stronger effort is needed to prevent the censure let alone the expulsion of Pro-Palestinian legislators.

I guess it comes down to vibes or good feelings not the pragmatic efforts needed to actually achieve something.

  • They ignore the reality of their suddenly disliking Biden & the lack of time on fielding a viable candidate. They didn’t condemn Biden during the 2021 Israel–Palestine crisis. They don’t know that Trump halted US funds to UNRWA & Biden reversed that. Skipped out on state Democratic conventions despite polling showing Democrat support for Palestine exceed Israel support & they could have tried to push for party platform changes. If they dislike Biden as much as they claim, then why did they not fund a PAC or challenger years ago?

  • There you go again; never said we’d do any liberating that is for the citizens to decide themselves. If China goes to war because of their authoritarian leader, the system may unravel & highly likely not be supported by their public. War won’t fix their real estate Ponzi scheme that collapsed ruining a lot of people’s retirement plans.

Take off the rose-tinted glasses and see past propaganda. You don’t know anything about China and their happiness. We are seeing discontent among the working age youth (they stopped publishing stats on it), and they have had plenty of protest squashed. It’s not all bubbly (nor is it the worst possible thing). To be honest we can’t know because authoritarians despise transparency. They are just happy for rubes like you.

Afghanistan was a NATO Article V in response to 9/11. The guys that supported networks like Osma Bin Laden’s & terrorist like him are long gone. NATO reformed the mission in 2015 with the goal of developing an independent, self-sustaining force capable of combating both internal and external threats. It wasn’t the preferred government forces that would be duly elected & accountable to the citizens but hey they got there in a way. Now they can have water wars with Iran, get in scuffles with Pakistan, decide if they want a Chinese highway cutting through remote territory, and fight ISIS-K all on their own. The kids grow up quick and get to go their own path like Iraq.

We exited a war with a more different version of our 2015 goals but we it wasn’t some combat loss you are thinking of. They are fighting terrorism & standing up for themselves as a nation, not for sure how long but it got there. If I see some ballerinas playing on public TV, maybe I’ll change my mind. I just like enjoying my life free from the taste of boot in my mouth and wish the Afghans could have enjoyed that too. But feel free to lick those boots if you want to.
