  • the overall malware campaign against the Python development community has been running since at least August of 2023, when a number of popular open source Python tools were maliciously duplicated with added malware. Now, though, there are also attacks involving “coding tests” that only exist to get the end user to install hidden malware on their system (cleverly hidden with Base64 encoding) that allows remote execution once present.

So, a supply chain attack or they’re sending you code to run?

This is a good time to refer to PEP 668 which enforces virtual environments for non-system wide Python installs.

Virtual environments are not isolated sandboxes. This is not a security feature. Do not expect any kind of safety by running things in a venv.

  • A flex outlet is a type of electrical socket that allows you to wire high-powered appliances straight into your walls. Boilers, water heaters, and other electrical unit that require a continuous power source, would be wired through a flex outlet. Flex outlets are often used in a situation where a plug socket would be difficult to access. Or with appliances that do not come with a 13A plug socket as standard.

Still not sure I really get why this exists, but okay.

  • I wouldn’t worry if we distributed patients: I’d have my patients and do only them, but management expects me to cater to all patients, including the ones from the lazy ones…

Don’t overwork yourself for others. Help out if you want, but don’t feel like you have to. If your boss reacts negatively, well, then it might be time to look for a move.

  • And because I’m the only one with this job mentality, it’s always me the one who works while the rest do nothing.

This is very frustrating and I’m now applying elsewhere, but it bothers me that my new workplace can turn out to be like this.

You’ll see this everywhere. If you’re not their manager, it’s not worth worrying about.

  • I choose to believe it’s mostly accidental. Either it fell out of a trashcan while the truck was doing pick ups or sucked out of a car window before the driver could catch it. Or any other number of circumstances that probably happened to us in one point it time.

Obviously that’s not always the case but there’s no point in my getting angry at imaginary people about it.
