  • in the medical field you have sort of two opposing forces:

there’s a severe lack of personnel, because personnel is very hard to train, and its not practical for doctors to train a bunch of people simultaneously.

Governments want them to train more, but the consequence of training more is you get sloppier work, and all the doctors pay will decrease because theyd essentially be training their competition/replacements.

Given the fact that the medical field is one of the hardest fields to enter (and one of the costliest ones), existing doctors have much more to lose if there is a flood of new workers. Doctors on a reletive scale are overworked and underpaid, and adding more staff would address the overworked part, but doesn’t fixed the underpaid part. Given that South Korea has a socialized health care, it’s virtually a matter of the government willing to pay more for doctors or not

edit: I should preface, by underpaid, its not how much they get paid once they finish all their trianing (which is a lot, almost 4x the average). it’s just that while doctors are going through the intern status, they get paid peanuts(basically country average) while working (an illegal) amount of time, so the journey up to becoming a full fledged doctor is basically work slavery. It’s in a very similar boat to like trade school apprenticeship (where you start off with destitute pay) but gradually gets better and you get options for more hours. the only difference is doctors have that mandatory almost decade year of training while trade jobs start work almost instantly.

  • also in the article:

According to reports from China’s Huashang Daily and National Business Daily newspapers at the weekend, one five-star hotel in Hangzhou had banned electric vehicles from the basement parking lot, citing recent cases in which they have started fires.

“Based on the characteristics of electric vehicle fires and our hotel’s firefighting capabilities, we think it safer not to allow them into the underground garage,” the papers quoted the hotel’s security manager as saying.

  • state of play is sony’s counterpart to “Nintendo Direct”. With the death of E3, all major companies have their own showcase of shows digitally, while some of them will just announce it in the general show (Geoff’s Summer Game fest, the “generic e3 show”)

basically Sony if showing off their own games, has 2 shows:

State of Play is sonys version of, includes 3rd party companies producing content on playstation

Sony also has a different showcase called “Playstation Showcase” thats directed specifically to 1st party stuff

just for completion sake, Microsoft’s game info show is called “Xbox Game Showcase”

  • basically specifically for AAA titles, development cost for them are soo astronomically high that the console platform isnt enough to support them alone (imo) both Sony and Microsoft basically have to decide to either scale back complexity of games (like what Nintendo would do) or release it to more platforms because 1 device platform is no longer enough for some titles.

Sony decides to port to PC, (and so does 3rd party companies like Square Enix and capcom who realize the need), while Microsoft is taking the subscription route which bolters both their cloud infrastructure numbers, and provides a subscriber count which investors like because subscriptions are content quarterly flow of money rather than peaks and drops based on game release.

  • why would you think its gone lol, FGC interest tends to grow every year, especially during major release years.

in fact it’s of the few communities where user demand is actually heard and met (e.g FreeMvC2 movement that spread during covid, gets a massive MvC collection announcement during the Switch Direct presentation this June.) Company relationships that have historically soured are back (Capcam and Marvel post MVCI, Capcom and SNK post SVC Chaos/CVS2 to thr point where Capcom introduces a guest character for the first time in mainline street fighter history. After previously lending Akuma for example in Tekken 7.

if anything, Fighting games have gotten bigger, and evo entrants generally show it

  • the major advantage that fighting games have in person is yhat it basically requires you to respect one another else get kicked out of thr venue and potentially get banned in local events. The being together in person allows comradery, and which is one of the reasons why FGC is very LGBTQ+ friendly, while things terminally online gets the worst people.

basically the level of anonymity and lack thereof of a good punishment for cheating is what holds online games back.
