“Left and right are like a gas pedal and brake,” Mr. Haidt continued. “If you have a car with just a gas pedal, just progressive, it’s going to crash in a very predictable way. And if you have a car with just a brake, well, you don’t go anywhere.”

Did anyone make an enlightenedcentrism Lemmy community yet?

“Well if too many people get rights and don’t have to worry about making rent or their mortgage payment or affording their groceries and generally able to live comfortably then, well, the people will be weak and babies and think they’re equal to us normals!”

He is, just stalling out the bloody car as its only pressed halfway in, rendering it effectively like a brake pedal but there might be some coasting. Maybe. If we’re on an incline.

Edit: nvm, paywall. Got 2 sentences in so I’m going with yes, my comment is valid lol

Edit, edit: I’m thinking centrists are the clutch, not necessarily him, unless he’s a centrist. Then also yes. Again. I think. I just woke up from a nap. Might be confused.

Toby Shannan, the former chief operating officer of the e-commerce business Shopify, has called on Mr. Haidt for advice on facing ideological battles in the workplace. He said Mr. Haidt got him through a bumpy period in the lead-up to Donald J. Trump’s election in 2016, when some of his employees were fuming about Shopify hosting online swag shops for right-wing groups like Breitbart News. With Mr. Haidt’s counsel, Shopify determined that users could sell merchandise with political commentary, but none with explicit calls to harm.

Ah yes, so long as it’s all dogwhistles and not explicitly saying “kill the poors, browns and queers” then it’s all good.
